After weeks of waiting, last summer, time was finally there: I was able to go to one of the cities I’ve been wanting to see for way too long, Rome! A friend and I travelled through air with KLM and stayed there for four days. Which was exactly enough to see all the things we wanted to see, to eat delicious things and to do a little bit of shopping. Today I’m sharing some of the pictures I made and what we’ve done during this holiday I’ll never forget: Rome.
Such a gorgeous city! Every little side street had something new to offer. What I loved most is that everything is within walking distance, all the “big” landmarks, museums and restaurants. In the four days we stayed, we only had to take the underground once to the Vatican. Our hotel was on the other side of Rome and walking to it and back was a little bit too much, since we were all ready a bit tired. Besides, the weather was just amazing. It was maybe even a little bit too hot to be walking all day long, but in the shade everything was perfectly fine. Furthermore the stores were amazing! There are so much beautiful shops selling gorgeous shoes, boutqies and of course there were Kiko and Sephora. What was even more exciting was that we were there during SALE!
We booked our holiday through Arke.nl and chose for the Demetra Hotel, which was such a good hotel! It had basically everything we needed: a nice and clean room, good breakfast, a clean bathroom, a refrigerator, a big closet and air-conditioning. Besides that, the people in the hotel were véry friendly. The receptionist took all her time to explain how the hotel worked, but also to explain how everything in Rome works. We could ask them anything: taxi’s, the best local restaurants, how we could get somewhere and more. Furthermore, it was no problem to extend the time we had in our hotel room (our plane planned to leave at 21:00 o’clock, while we should have been checked out at 11:00 o’clock)’. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone who’s going to Rome!
What did we do?
Day 1: to be honest, the first day in Rome didn’t start off too well. When we arrived at the airport of Rome we figured out that my suitcase was lost (where we kept all of our stuff) and no one could tell us what to do and where we needed to be. That airport is probably one of the most chaotic airports I’ve ever been! So horrible! Anyway, after 2 hours of walking around at the airport and asking at 4 different information desks, we finally got our suitcase back. I was sooo mad, but relieved too. When we finally arrived at the Hotel, everything was back to perfect: a gorgeous, clean room in the centre of Rome. After resting a little bit we went to Via Nazionale to do some shopping and sightseeing to, for example, the Colloseum. At night we were very tired of the whole travel-drama, that we didn’t feel like going out to dinner or doing something else, so we went to bed quite early.
Day 2: the next day we had a little bit more energy and did some more things than the day before. On this day we went to the Spanish Steps, a castle, the Trevi Fountain and we did some shopping in Via del Corso, which is a big shopping street in Rome. Besides that we walked all the way to Piazza Navona, which is a nice little square with street artists and a lot of art. At night we ate at a little restaurant called Bafetto. Whenever you’re in Rome you should definitely visit this place!! It was a typical Italian restaurant, with old Italian servers and the best pizza I ever had. Waiting in line for this restaurant is totally worth the experience!
Day 3: On the third day we took the subway to the Vatican. We didn’t go inside because the line to get in was ridiculously long, but just looking at the building from outside was a pretty sight too! We also went to the Pantheon, ate some delicious ice cream, did some shopping and rested on almost every bench we saw, oh-we-were-so-tired-from-walking!! Even sitting somewhere and watching people pass by and street artist was a lot of fun.
Day 4: the fourth day was the day that we had to go back to The Netherlands. Because our airplane planned to leave quite late at night, we chose to stay the most part of our afternoon in the hotel to pack our suitcases. Later that day we had some lunch somewhere, did some more shopping and went back to home. This time I didn’t loose my suitcase!!
Altogether, this has been a lovely holiday! Rome is probably one of the most gorgeous cities I have ever seen. The people were friendly and the food was delicious! I would definitely recommend Rome to all of you!
Have you ever been in Rome?
