Dim sum is one of the things that I love to eat most. For the ones who don’t know what dim sum is: it’s basically Cantonese food, prepared as small bite-sized portions. These portions are either served in the cutest small steamer baskets or on small plates, with some soya sauce on the side. We usually buy 2-5 portions for every person, it depends how much you can eat.
One of my all time favourite places to have dim sum at is:
Oriental City in Amsterdam
Dim sum is something my family and I have been eating for ages (oh the Chinese roots!). An afternoon of Dim Sum isn’t complete without some Char Siu Bao (steamed honey BBQ pork bun). These are the real bapao! Really, those things from the supermarket are nothing compared to this. I also adore the Siu Mai they make (steamed minced pork & prawns wrapped in dough). I remember getting these things when I was younger from a local Chinese food truck. Childhood memories! Also get some of the steamed rice-sheet rolls (they are all amazing) and dumplings. If you are a daredevil: steamed chicken claws and steamed squid in black bean sauce!
The restaurant is located right in the middle of Amsterdam, close to Dam Square, the Royal Palace, the main shopping streets, the red light district, China town and Nieuwmarkt, which makes it perfect for a brunch!
If you go here, don’t expect the most fancy restaurant, because the interior is not that trendy (like almost every other Chinese restaurant I know). But do expect the best food! Trust me, the dim sums are amazing.
