Last year I spend 10 nights on the tiny island Gili Trawangan. Whilst most of my friends say that’s a crazy long time to spend on this well known party island.. However, I had the best time ever. Today I’m sharing 10 things you can do here:
1. Rent a bike
The thing I loved doing most in Gili Trawangan was renting a bike and cruising around the island. Since there are no scooters on the island and I didn’t want to take one of the horse carriages, renting a bike or walking were the only two options. With a bike you can quickly go around the island and explore.
2. Island hopping
From Gili Trawangan it is very easy to explore Gili Meno and Gili Air, definitely take a day trip to one of the more quiet islands!
3. Sunset by the swings
Watching a sunset is definitely a must do at Gili Trawangan – taking the typical tourist Instragram swing picture also. Sunsets on this island are just beyond gorgeous.
4. Scuba diving and snorkling
Scuba diving is thé reason that I spent so many days on the island. I took a multiple day course to get my diving PADI (which was amazing!). However, I also spend a day snorkling around Gili T, where they have multiple places where you can spot turtles and did a snorkling tour around the other islands, Gili Air and Gili Meno, which I highly recommend!
Another water related thing you can do in Gili Trawangan is supping. Whilst it looks super easy, you do use a fair amount of muscles whilst doing it. You’ll definitely be sore the next day!
6. Spas and massages
There are several spas and places to get massages on Gili Trawangan. They all are reasonably priced compared to Europe. I’d recomment Azure Spa at Pesona Resort. And honestly, going to a spa or massage is something you should do no matter where in Bali you’re travelling to.
7. Party and live music
Gili Trawangan is known as the party island of Bali. On the main strip you’ll find Jiggy, Sama-Sama and many more bars. Sama-sama is one of my favourites, since they have live music (almost) every night.
‘Do you want to see the moon?’ is question that was asked to me way to many times. If you’re into this shit, mushrooms grow in the wild on Gili T and are therefore ‘legal’.
9. Night food market and all the other good food
At the night market you’ll find the real, super affordable, local food. Definitely go to the ones where most people are cueing (I got Bali belly after going to a place where there were no people..) and you’re good to go!
10. Cooking classes
Last but not least you can take some amazing cooking classes for traditional Indonesian food. Learn how to make nasi goreng and many more things. Definitely a must do if you’re into cooking and a fun group activity.
These are some of the 10 things you can do on the super chill party island Gili Trawangan. Have you been here?
