For the last six years I’ve been lucky enough to have lived either in Amsterdam or super nearby Amsterdam. The one thing I loved doing in town almost every single day was going out for lunch. Today I’ll be sharing some of my top favourites! – and yes, I’d love to take a plane back to the Netherlands and go back to some of these places. But since I can’t, you all better get your ass down there! ;)
They have every right in the world to call themselves an urban jungle – because it is! Benji’s has a super chill tropical Balinese vibe and is perfect if you want to escape the busy city centre for a bit. The food is amazing and reasonably priced. I love their avocado toast. It’s also a great place to work for a bit.
Benji’s: Wibautstraat 196
Oh I’ve been at this place a little too many times, because I absolutely love it! At Food Hallen you can find around 20 street food vendors serving literally everything: sushi, dim sum, burgers, vegan food – everything you would want. You can also get some amazing gin and tonics here!
Food Hallen: Bellamyplein 51
Joe & The Juice
I fell in love with Joe & The Juice for the first time on Copenhagen. and am very happy to say that this juice bar has finally opened it’s doors in Amsterdam! Next to juices they also sell sandwiches, shakes, ‘joegurts’, coffee and shots! Do try them all.
Joe & The Juice: Cornelis Schuytstraat 50 & Beethovenstraat 5
Libertine Comptoir de Cuisine
Libertine recently opened its doors and is amazing if you like french toast like me. I’m a huge fan of french toast, Nutella and banana and they make some of the best ones. They also have savoury toast and many more delicious things. Also, the interior of this place is amazing! Perfect if you want to take that Instagrammable shot – because I know you do.
Libertine Comptoir de Cuisine: Berenstraat 20
Just across Libertine you can find Pluk, which is amazing for breakfast or lunch. I love their fresh detox juices and açai bowls. They also sell some of the cutest gifts! Warning: it does tend to get really busy, so make sure to grab a table first!
Pluk: Berenstraat 19|
Blue truly is amazing if you want to enjoy some (basic) lunch with a gorgeous 360° view over the city centre of Amsterdam! Even though it’s located in the middle of Amsterdam, it’s not too pricey. It’s the perfect place to chill with a beautiful view (especially during sunset)!
Blue Amsterdam: Singel 457, Winkelcentrum Kalverpassage
The Avocado Show
If you’re an avocado fan, this is the place to be! The interior of the place is super cute and the food is good! There is always a waiting list, which can be annoying, but is a good sign.
The Avocado Show: Daniël Stalpertstraat 61
This is thé place you have to go to if you want to have some dim sum! My family and I have been coming here for ages and the quality of the food is always good. It’s a little bit more pricey than the other dim sum places in Amsterdam, but I do think it’s one of the best. It’s also conveniently located nearby Dam Square.
Oriental city: Oudezijds Voorburgwal 177-179
Coffee and Coconuts
I already recommended this place in my favourite places to have coffee and work, but this place is also great for lunch and dinner. The ambiance of the place is super chill and the food is good. It’s a great place to hang out with your friends.
Coffee and Coconuts: Ceintuurbaan 282-284
Vegan Junk Food Bar
This is one of my favourite places for lunch and dinner. It’s delicious ánd vegan – which is great if you’re into that. Even though it’s called a ‘junk food bar’ the food is surprisingly healthy. Definitely try some of their burgers and sweet potato fries! Even though the food is vegan, it all tastes like meat which always surprises me. It does get reallyyyy busy at peak times, so make sure to prepare to either wait or come early!
Vegan Junk Food Bar: Staringplein 22
Of course these are only some of my favourites! There many more places to enjoy lunch in Amsterdam. Just go and explore!
